robert,
There is no such compound as nitrogen trioxide. The molecular compound that some are quoting in their answers, N2O3, has the scientific name dinitrogen trioxide. Having the word "nitrogen" at the beginning of the name implies that there is only one N atom in the compound, which is not the case. The other formula people are quoting, NO3, does not exist as a compound. There is, however, an ion with a -1 charge with this formula, called the "nitrate" ion.
Aaaaaah.... I have just looked up N2O3 on the web and there are actually a few manufacturers of the chemical that call it "nitrogen trioxide". I can see where the confusion comes from. Just know that this name is wrong, and the real name is dinitrogen trioxide.
What is the scientific name of Nitrogen trioxide?
NO3. 1 nitrogen molecule, 3 oxygen molecules
Reply:N2O3
Reply:that is a scientific name NO3 is nitrongen trioxide
Reply:nitrogen trioxide is the scientific name unless you are looking for the molecular formula which is N2O3
