If you shut your eyes really tightly, you put some pressure on your the cells in the retina. These cells generally respond to light, but they also respond to pressure stimulation. I think the name you're looking for is pressure phosphenes.
If you tightly shut your eyes, what is the scientific name given to thelights you see flashing around?

Reply:When you do that you are hurting the optical nerves. These are not able to register pain, they can only register light. So the lights are that which feels like pain in any other nerve. Don't do it too often!
