Can someone please tell me if theres a scientific name for glass like h20 is for water?

there are many different types of glass you have to be more specific, check this chart out though, the chemical composition is on the left and some of the different types of glass are along to top and the % of each chemical in them is underneath http://www.a-m.de/englisch/lexikon/visko...

Can someone please tell me if theres a scientific name for glass like h20 is for water?
As it was mentioned there are different types of glass but most of them have over a 70% of their weight SiO2 (Silicon dioxide). The variants for glass include boric oxide (Pyrex borosilicates) which makes it more resistant to temperature. you can also find lead salts and sodium, depends the purpose of the glass. All those salts are mixed and melted to form glass. So if you want to give glass a scientific name would be for example Borosilicate glass in case of the Pyrex ones or Soda-lime glass in case of the most common type of glass you can see daily because it has Sodium and calcium oxides, and so. But the name of a molecule like H20 for water is not possible since it's a mixture of different compounds mixed and melted.
Reply:There are many ways to make glass so the elements change depending on how it's made.

One is Soda-lime Glass 鈥?A glass whose main constituents are Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), Sodium Oxide (Na2O) and Calcium Oxide (CaO).
Reply:Sand.
